The only ice hotel in the United States (so far) was The Aurora Ice Hotel at Chena Hot Springs Resort, near Fairbanks, AK. The hotel closed in 2004 and reopened in 2005 as the Aurora Ice Museum, so there currently (2014) isn’t any sort of icy accommodations in the U.S. that “officially” takes overnight guests. You can, however, rent the Aurora Ice Museum overnight and of course you are allowed to be in the museum during the rental period :)

Steve and Heather Brice are the ice artists for the Ice Hotel/Museum. Steve and Heather have maybe won more World Championships in ice sculpting than I can count. In fact, while you were reading that last sentence, they probably won another one. (Ok, that may be stretching things a bit; it wasn't a very long sentence.) There's a gallery of their ice art on this site, OR you can look at their website.

The current incarnation of the "hotel" is open year round and amazingly is cooled by an innovative geothermal power system. It's one of the most environmentally-friendly giant freezers in the world. You can find out more about this ground-breaking system cooling system.

When, I think of something else to write about the Ice Hotel or Chena Hot Springs, I'll put it here. It's late though, so nothing yet...
