ice carving secrets: about the site

Note to visitors:

Someday, I’d like to write a book about ice sculpture. But someday couldn’t help but be a long way away because books take a long time to write. I’ve often thought that ice sculptors are impatient artists, seeking the almost immediate gratification of a crystalline artwork wrought in minutes or hours rather than weeks or months. I suppose then that this website is the work of an impatient author. Rather than deliver a somewhat complete but inflexible book to those trying to learn our art, I thought instead to create this never complete, always flexible, constantly evolving archive about what I’ve learned about ice. Hope you like it!

what’s the big secret?

There is no BIG Secret in ice carving. Just a LOT of little ones. This site is my attempt to share some ice sculpture designs and many of the techniques I’ve learned from others or discovered on my own, as well as a lot of personal touches and even a confession or two.

I’ve included a little bit about me and my ice carving career as well.

(I started writing this blog/site in August of 2006. I didn’t post it until 2/2/07, though, so that it would have some content and so that I could prove to myself that I really wanted to put the effort required into the site.)

To navigate the site and find information you’re looking for, use the navigation bars at the top and bottom (sometimes) of pages. Also, you can use the search function in the secrets blog (which, unfortunately, doesn’t always work, use Google to find information on icecarvingsecrets.com, or take a look at the master sitemap.
