ice carving secrets: win a free chisel and keyhole saw!
**Updated 4/30/10: THE CONTEST IS OVER; Andrew Ta wins the chisel and saw; Congratulations!**
And now for something a little different... For the first time, ice carving secrets is putting on a contest where you can win stuff! Courtesy of Ice Crafters, you can win the Chinese flat chisel and keyhole saw shown above. Also included are a chisel cover and canvas roll (not shown). The total value of the prize is about $120. Here are the hoops that you have to jump through to be eligible for this prize.
- Be a facebook “fan” of either Ice Crafters or ice carving secrets (or both) by 5 p.m. CDT, April 30, the last day of the contest. Facebook fans of Ice Crafters will be notified in their “live feed” of special offers while fans of ice carving secrets will see new ice sculpture designs and templates before they’re posted on the main site.
- Email the correct answers to the following questions to icecarvingsecrets@mac.com by the same date and time. The answers to most of these questions can be found on this site and are mostly pretty easy to find. One question requires a phone call (see below) and the answer to #6 can be found on the Ice Crafters website.
1. Who got me (Dawson List) started carving ice back in 1989?
2. Name three female World Champion ice sculptors (hint: In one case, they all won a World Championship at the same time!)
3. How many “Polynesian themed” ice sculpture designs are on ice carving secrets?
4. What biblical character ice sculpture am I standing next to in one of the videos on the site?
5. UPDATE 4/30/10: THE PHONE CALL IS NO LONGER NECESSARY TO ENTER. Ice Crafters sells over 1,200 ice carving-related products. Alice Connelly of Ice Crafters has long been an authority in the field of ice sculpture and has even been quoted in publications such as the Wall Street Journal and New York Times for ice carving stories. How many times has Alice travelled to Europe to judge ice sculpting events? This answer requires a call to Ice Crafters at 800-871-0739. Calls for this portion of the contest are accepted Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm CDT. Ask for Alice, introduce yourself and ask away. And if you need any ice sculpting equipment, she’ll be happy to help you with that as well! (Note: this question was changed due to conflicting information. If you’re answering after 4:50 pm CDT on 4/13/10, you need to answer the question above.)
6. How much for a Makita angle grinder on the Ice Crafters website?
- One final hoop (although this is on your honor; I have no way to verify it): Go to Ice Alaska’s site and sign the online petition to help save the ice park!
The winner will be chosen at random from all of the correct and completed entries (this could be 2 or 200; we’ll have to see!) and will be notified via email by 11 pm CDT April 25, 2010. Dawson List (me), ice carving secrets, and Ice Crafters can’t be held responsible for technical difficulties (such as a website being down, etc). Winner may have to pay shipping expenses to receive their prize. Nobody directly associated with ice dragon ice sculptures, ice carving secrets, or Ice Crafters is eligible to participate in the contest. Contest participants must be 18 or over by 4/23/10 and have a working email address. Insert a bunch of other legal mumbo jumbo here...
Questions? Email me at icecarvingsecrets@mac.com. (I will give an additional hint on number 2 via email if you’re having trouble)
Good luck!
