ice carving secrets: “Got You!” close-up
I while back, I did a couple of entries that featured “Got You!” by Junichi Nakamura and Tak Ito (“Got You!” and Ice bending revisited) at the World Ice Art Championships. Well, Louis Manzoni (of the winning team that carved “Jonah” in the multi-block event) sent me a whole bunch of fantastic photos from several events and I thought that his great photos of this impressive chameleon sculpture would be a nice place to start. Louis has been very generous in sharing his photos and we agreed that Ice Carving Secrets would be a great place for even more people to see them! Thanks Louis!

The tongueless chameleon before he scores a meal. Note the small piece of ice at the attachment point.

Junichi gets ready to attach the tongue (it’s in his right hand). The pink flag is a reminder to be careful when walking around that part of the carving. It’s easy to knock the delicate pieces off!

Louis Manzoni got some close-up photos of the first place piece “Got You!” by Junichi Nakamura and Tak Ito. Even better, he was there while they were attaching the tongue and fly! (see below; all photos in this entry are courtesy of Louis Manzoni)
