ice carving secrets: snow rose design
ice carving secrets: snow rose design
The snow rose is cut from a half block slab (40”x20”x4-5”) of ice with the addition of a stabilizing base. This is an adaptable design that can be used for, among other things, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and weddings (see below). The space for engraving text is small, so this design might not work for longer messages. While engraving the rose, don’t worry about making it perfect; some of the smaller details might break out while carving, which is fine. The outside border of the rose is cut rough with a chisel and/or ice pick. When the sculpture is displayed, colored lighting can be a big plus (see below).
