An eagle school mascot sculpture at a wedding? Well, why not, when their school’s football team is in a bowl game in New Orleans the next day! I’ve done a number of mascot sculptures for weddings in the past, in particular tigers since LSU won the national championship. Usually, the mascot sculpture seems to be for the groom; kind of like an ice version of the groom’s cake. Often it’s a luge as well, and if it’s a fall wedding, there might be a big screen tv nearby so that people can watch the game!

    Even though it was supposed to be a Southern Miss golden eagle, this design was somewhat based on the “truckin’ eagle” that was my high school’s mascot. I’ve carved that before for a reunion, so this design was pretty familiar territory. You probably have a school nearby with an eagle mascot, so this design could come in handy. Just add the right name and/or number to the front of the eagle’s jersey and nobody will know it didn’t start out as their favorite eagle.

    Bird legs don’t offer very substantial support, so avoid taking out much ice around the feet and knees if you can. Use a thick block if possible; you’ll need it to get the width of the shoulders out of it.
