ice carving secrets: snowflake 2 design
ice carving secrets: snowflake 2 design
In an effort to avoid a weld line running right through the center of a large snowflake, and therefore the logo, I designed this piece. The two side welds get lost in the snowflake detailing and aren’t as noticeable. Taking it even further, we’ve also even carved this piece out of a larger “monster” block, but we cut out the center (see the bottom drawing) and goofed on the supports, so the piece broke.
It’s easier if you leave the two welded pieces relatively uncut until after the welds are secure. If you cut them out completely, then you have twice as many welds to do. Once they’re securely welded to the center structure, then it’s fairly easy to cut them out completely.
