ice carving secrets: martini glass luge design

One important difference between this design and the stars luge is that the liquid comes out the front of the sculpture instead of the bottom. In order that the liquid doesn’t just flow down the front of the ice or shoot straight out onto your guests, some additional plumbing must be added. I extend the tubing out the front of the sculpture slightly and then use a small elbow that turns the flow of liquid back downwards. See the very end of the entry for a bad photo of this piece of plumbing.
This design comes from a 40x20x4 inch slab of ice. The rectangle at the bottom of the design is used as the base of the sculpture.

I use the “funnel” on the left side of the photo above for almost all of my tube luge sculptures. Also, I use the tubing shown above (see the stars luge entry for more information.) For this design, however, I use the L-shaped connector shown below to redirect the flow of liquid after the tube comes out of the front of the sculpture. The problem is that this connector won’t fit on the blue-labeled tubing in the picture above. So I use a short piece of the yellow labeled tubing as an adaptor, which works great.
