ice carving secrets: Liberty Bell with flags design
ice carving secrets: Liberty Bell with flags design
It’s a little early to be talking about the Fourth of July, but I had the design all ready, so here it is. This design was originally published in a newsletter in June of 2004. I’ve included the original text below. Slight changes were made to the design itself. If you would like to use this design or any other design on this site, please check the design usage guidelines. The design collection page lists designs on the site.
“Happy Fourth of July!” Dawson List, Ice Dragon Ice Sculptures, New Orleans, LA
For this particular design, the flags are carved separately and placed in front. Note that the dark stripes and stars correspond to the flag’s white stripes and stars and should be snowfilled. For the bell portion, care should be taken that the base is stable and substantial; otherwise the sculpture may tip.

You may want to leave a little extra ice around the edges of the flags to make them more durable. This piece can be carved from as little as one block, but you may want to carve it from one and a half blocks.
