ice carving secrets: attention to detail
One effective method of creating long lasting detail is to “double detail.” Use a larger tool for the first cuts and then follow the original cuts with a smaller tool that makes a smaller channel. For example, use die grinder with a v-bit and then follow with a small straight bit on a dremel. A cross-section of this cut would look like a “Y” with the v-bit cutting the top “V” portion and the dremel cutting the deeper stem of the “Y.” As long as the dremel section is not clogged with snow or slush, you create long lasting detail that looks good too.
